Proverbs the whole book... But more specifically
Proverbs 31: 10-31
Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies. The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil. She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life. She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands. She is like the merchants' ships; she bringeth her food from afar. She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens. She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard. She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms. She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night. She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff. She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy. She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet. She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple. Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land. She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant. Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come. She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness. She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness. Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her. Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all. Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.
- This scripture talks about the virtuous woman, this is the perfect wife and mother, homemaker, she does it all and I bet she is exhausted. I'm not sure I could ever become anything close to this women and I can't imagine how much harder her job was with out the modern conveniences of today. This women simply encourages me to work and to do my best what ever that is for me.
Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails. (NKJV)
- This verse reminds me how to love daily I look back to this when dealing with my kids, husband, friends, neighbors, family, and strangers. This is a very hard one to remember when you are, let's just say cranky, but I do find that when I look back at it, it gives me the strength that I need to make better choices in treating people. Which brings me to my next verse.......
Mark 12: 30-31
And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.' This is the first commandment. And the second, like it, is this: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no other commandment greater than these."
Ephesians 5: 22-33
Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body. Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything. Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish. So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself. For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church. For we are members of His body, of His flesh and of His bones. For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” This is a great mystery, but I speak concerning Christ and the church. Nevertheless let each one of you in particular so love his own wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.
- This scripture is one of the most well known controversial scriptures in The Bible among women. I am sure there are a lot of women who are thinking, we have come along way from this. Feminist have been trying to move women entirely away from that way of thinking. However, this is not a way of thinking. This is the word of God and as a Christian I believe it should be followed. We can not pick and chose scriptures to live by God gave us these commandments to follow for a reason. This is not to say that I don't struggle with this daily but reading this verse helps me to remember to let go and allow my husband to do his job, I trust The Lord to lead him to the best choices for our family. A body has one head just like a company has one leader. Operations don't work as well when you have two heads. Who would make the final decision when you can't agree. This obviously not to say that your husband should disregard you opinions and just make selfish decisions. You should discuss everything and he should respect you and take what you have to say in to consideration.
There are many many more scriptures that I live by. These are just a few of my most frequently looked back on verses and ones I thought might help other moms and wife's.
From,
A mom around the clock
